Deutsche Post AG (DPO) is a privately-owned postal company established by the German Federal Post in 1995. The other two companies after the split are Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post Bank. In order to prevent the drawbacks of excessive marketization caused by the split of the German Federal Post, the government established the "Telecommunications and Postal Standardization Office" (RegTP) to maintain and supervise a reasonable competition mechanism in the postal and telecommunications services sector.

Since 2002, the headquarters of Deutsche Post has been located in the new conference center of the Deutsche Post Building in Bonn. The current CEO is Dr. Frank Appel. In 2003, Deutsche Post acquired all shares of First Mail, a private mail service provider in Dusseldorf. In 2005, the Reconstruction Credit Bank sold 11.4% of Deutsche Post's shares worth 2 billion euros in the capital market, and since then, Deutsche Post's state-owned assets have been below 50%.

Starting from July 1, 2023, Deutsche Post DHL Group will be renamed as DHL Group. This renaming reflects the group's commitment to transformation, focusing on domestic and international logistics business, and in line with the group's business development trend. The CEO of the group, Ma Taoyuan, stated that the importance of the DHL brand in markets outside of Germany will continue to increase, and the history of the German postal brand can be traced back to the 15th century. The group will continue to use and cherish this brand as always.
